Chestfield Parish Plan

The Parish Plan was formally handed over to the Parish Council at its meeting on Monday 24th April. It represented many months of hard work by the Steering Group, many of whom were present to watch the Chairman, Sheila Finch, hand the first copy to Len Claisse, the Chairman of the Parish Council, who expressed his gratitude to the Steering Group and volunteers for al their hard work

Since that date copies of the Parish Plan have been delivered to all the houses in Chestfield and sent out to many officials, libraries etc.
Should any household in Chestfield not have received a Parish Plan, please contact Sheila Finch (Tel: 792030)

The Steering Group consisted of the following:

Louise Foreman (Vice Chairman)
Philip Lennard (Secretary)
Sue Cochrane (Treasurer)
Len Claisse (Parish Councillor)

Ably supported by the following volunteers
Mike Battson, Colin Harrison, Jean Major, Judy Packwood and all the other people who helped with delivery of Questionnaires and (hopefully!) delivery of the completed Parish Plan.

The work was funded by grants received from C.C.C.'s Can Do Fund, K.C.C.'s Small Grants Fund (Courtesy of Kent County Councillor Mike Harrison), Chestfield Parish Council, DEFRA’s Parish Plans Grant Scheme and a few donations from individuals. To all these people the Steering Group is extremely grateful.

News - Progress on the Chestfield Action Plan

Much of the work on the Action Plan involves discussions with officers  from  C.C.C. , K.C.C. and any other body that can help. All of this takes time since it depends on the availability of officers, the framing of propositions, obtaining approval for them and, most  importantly, the availability of funds! The following are things that have happened since the Plan was formulated:

Amenities and Activities

  1. The provision of Goal Posts and nets for teenagers with a Basket Ball Post and hopefully a Teen Shelter to follow.
  2. The great success of the Youth Club and Table Tennis Club, both instigated by John and Lin Wickings.
  3. The installation of new apparatus for the toddlers’ section of the Play Park and a new picnic table.
  4. With the promotion of Community Spirit  in mind, we are working to continue the social functions that were performed by the Chestfield Society. ( See the notice in the magazine)

Police and Security

  1. We now have a Police Constable (shared) and two Wardens who attend Parish Council Meetings when possible, as well as our Special Police Constable. Telephone numbers for all of these are in the Parish magazine.
  2. The provision of the Youth Club and hopefully the projected facilities above will do something to keep teenagers engaged.

Transport

  1. A Bus Shelter has been installed near the junction with Maydowns Road. Now we can start thinking about another. Where would be the best place?
  2. The provision of yellow lines opposite the Recreation Ground to ensure that cars all park on one side of the road, when football was in progress ,was turned down  by K.C.C. . We are trying again.

Highways

  1. A mobile reactive sign has been purchased and ten operators trained  no it is now operational. Summer holidays and now the closure of Chestfield Road have restricted operations, but  work will continue and it is hoped to use new sites .

Environment

  • The provision of a rose bed and shortly, two seats, in the Play Park purchased by means of a bequest from the late Dorothy Perkins
