Footpaths

Chestfield has a considerable mileage of footpaths, some in the village itself and even more in the surrounding fields and woods. A small and very hard-working group do their best to keep those within the built-up area and its vicinity as clear as possible, but especially in the summer, it is a very big task. From time to time working parties are set up at weekends and anyone who would like a few hours of fresh air and exercise would be very welcome, but even if you cannot spare the time for this, perhaps you could carry a pair of secateurs and remove protruding foliage when you walk the dog. The easier it is to use the paths, the more people are likely to walk them regularly and this will also keep them clear. Anyone wishing to join a working party should phone

Those who read 'the Blean' will know that groups of volunteers, together with the KCC Public Rights of Way Team, have been surveying the network of paths in the woods and using their results to produce circular walks. These will be published in the form of leaflets with maps, instructions, photographs and points of interest to look out for. Three of these are in the course of preparation and you can obtain the latest information by logging on to www.theblean.co.uk
